Signs your wrist or hand needs attention
You wake up with numb or tingling fingers.
Lifting your baby hurts the base of your thumb.
Push-ups and yoga planks hurt your wrist.
A finger clicks or locks when you make a fist.
Turning a door handle hurts the little-finger side of your wrist.
You drop things more often than you used to.

Why your wrist and hand keep flaring up
Your wrist has narrow channels where nerves and tendons pass through close together. Hours of typing, scrolling or lifting with your wrist bent can make the tissue inside them swell.
Picture a crowded lift. There’s room for everyone until a few more people squeeze in, and then the doors won’t close. A little swelling in a narrow space presses on the nerve or rubs on the tendon.
A splint or rest lets the swelling settle, but the same habits fill the space again.
So we look at how you type, hold your phone and lift, as well as at the wrist itself.

Inside a wrist and hand physiotherapy treatment session
Each session is 45 to 60 minutes and strictly one-to-one. Your first visit follows these four steps.

Assessment
Tell us where it hurts or tingles, and when: at night, while typing or when lifting. We test the nerves and tendons of your wrist and hand, and check your neck and elbow too.

Hands-on treatment
Hands-on treatment eases the pain and frees up a stiff wrist, thumb or finger. The technique depends on which part is sore.

Exercise therapy
You start exercises for grip, pinch and wrist control in the same session, some with light weights, so your hand can take everyday loads again.

Your plan
We suggest ways to type, hold your phone or lift your child that rest the sore spot, and you leave with a short home program.

Wrist and hand problems we treat
We treat a range of wrist and hand conditions, whether it’s an acute injury, long-term pain or recovery after surgery.
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Numbness and tingling in the thumb and first fingers, often worse at night. We ease pressure on the nerve and change the positions that bring it on.
Mommy's wrist (De Quervain's tenosynovitis)
Pain at the base of the thumb, common in new parents from lifting and feeding. We calm the tendons and show you easier ways to lift.
Trigger finger
A finger or thumb that catches, clicks or locks when you bend it. We work on the tendon’s glide and ease the stiffness.
Little-finger side wrist pain (TFCC injury)
Pain on the outer side of the wrist when you twist or lean on your hand. We protect it early, then rebuild grip and twisting strength.
Sprained wrist or finger
A jammed finger or a wrist bent back in sport or a fall, once a fracture has been ruled out. We settle the swelling and rebuild strength.
Thumb base arthritis
Aching at the base of the thumb when you pinch, write or open jars. We keep the joint moving and strengthen the muscles that support it.
Stiff wrist after a fracture or cast
Once the bone has healed, the wrist can be stiff and weak for a while. We restore movement and grip within your doctor’s limits.
Not sure what's causing it?
Bring any X-ray or scan reports you have (if any), and we’ll work it out at your assessment.

Common questions about wrist and hand physiotherapy
Can carpal tunnel syndrome get better without surgery?
Mild to moderate carpal tunnel often starts with non-surgical care, such as physiotherapy, a night splint and changes to how you use your hands. If the numbness is constant or your hand is getting weaker, we’ll ask you to see a doctor about other options.
Is mommy's wrist common after having a baby?
Yes. Pain at the base of the thumb often starts in the months after a baby arrives, from lifting and feeding positions. We show you ways to hold and lift your baby that take load off your thumb.
Do I need a doctor's referral or a scan first?
No. You can book with us directly, and your physiotherapist will assess your wrist and hand on your first visit. Bring any X-ray or MRI reports you already have. If your physiotherapist thinks a scan would help, they will tell you to see a doctor, who can arrange one.
Can I claim physiotherapy on insurance?
It depends on your insurer. With Great Eastern, we help with a direct claim, subject to eligibility. With other insurers, you pay first and we give you a physiotherapy report and receipt so you can claim. We don’t accept Guarantee Letters.
Do you treat hands and wrists after a fracture or surgery?
Yes, once your doctor or surgeon is happy for rehab to start. We follow their limits, and we can speak with them about your progress if you ask us to.
How long will my wrist take to feel better?
That depends on what’s wrong. A sore tendon from a busy month at work is different from stiffness after weeks in a cast. Your physiotherapist will explain what to expect after your first assessment.
What should I wear and bring?
Wear loose clothes you can move in, such as a T-shirt and shorts. Bring any X-ray, MRI or ultrasound reports you have. If you don’t have any, that’s fine.
What language does your team speak?
Our team speaks English, Malay and Mandarin, and some of us also speak Hokkien, Hakka and Cantonese. If you’d prefer a language other than English, mention it in your WhatsApp message when you book.
