Elbow pain in everyday moments
Picking up a full kettle hurts the outside of your elbow.
Shaking hands hurts more than it should.
Your elbow aches after a long day on the mouse.
Backhands or golf swings bring on a sharp pain.
Opening a tight jar lid makes you wince.
Straightening your arm after the gym feels sore.

Why your elbow pain keeps coming back
The muscles you grip and lift with join onto small tendons on the outside and inside of your elbow. A new racket, a busy month of typing or a jump in gym weights can load them faster than they can adapt.
Rest settles the pain, but a rested tendon is also less ready for load. Then the first heavy bag or long rally brings it straight back.
Tendons get stronger the way you train for a 10K run: a little more distance each week, never all at once.
So we build up your forearm tendons gradually, and look at your grip, racket and desk as we go.

What happens in your elbow physiotherapy visit
Each session is 45 to 60 minutes and strictly one-to-one. Your first visit follows these four steps.

Assessment
Tell us which grips and swings hurt. We press along the outside and inside of your elbow, test your grip strength, and check your neck and shoulder, since both can send pain to the elbow.

Hands-on treatment
Hands-on treatment settles the pain and loosens tight forearm muscles. What we use depends on your tendon and how irritated it is.

Exercise therapy
In the same session you start slow grip and wrist exercises, set at a level that stays comfortable. The load goes up a little each week.

Your plan
We talk through your grip, racket or mouse set-up. You leave with a home routine and a guide to how much you can play or lift for now.

Elbow problems we treat
We treat a range of elbow conditions, whether it’s an acute injury, long-term pain or recovery after surgery.
Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis)
Pain on the outside of the elbow when you grip, lift or play a backhand. We load the tendon gradually and ease the tight forearm muscles.
Golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis)
The same problem on the inside of the elbow, common with golf, climbing and heavy gripping. We strengthen the muscles that bend your wrist and fingers.
Biceps tendon pain at the front of the elbow
An ache in the crease of the elbow after curls, pull-ups or lifting boxes. We settle it, then rebuild your lifting strength.
Elbow bursitis
A soft, swollen lump on the tip of the elbow, often from leaning on it. We ease the pressure and protect it while it settles.
Tingling in the ring and little fingers (cubital tunnel syndrome)
The nerve behind the funny bone gets irritated, often when the elbow stays bent. We ease the nerve and change how you rest your arm.
Aching forearm from a pinched nerve (radial tunnel syndrome)
A deep ache just below the outside of the elbow that can be mistaken for tennis elbow. We find which one it is and treat that.
Stiff elbow after a fracture or dislocation
Once it has healed, the elbow can refuse to straighten or bend fully. We work on movement and strength within your doctor’s limits.

Common questions about elbow physiotherapy
How long does tennis elbow take to get better?
Tendons adapt slowly, so think in weeks to months rather than days. It depends on how long you’ve had it and how much your work or sport loads it. You’ll get a realistic idea after your assessment.
Should I wear an elbow strap or brace?
A strap can ease pain while you play or work, but it won’t make the tendon stronger on its own. Your physiotherapist will tell you whether one suits your elbow and when to wear it.
Do I need a doctor's referral or a scan first?
No. You can book with us directly, and your physiotherapist will assess your elbow on your first visit. Bring any X-ray or MRI reports you already have. If your physiotherapist thinks a scan would help, they will tell you to see a doctor, who can arrange one.
Can I claim physiotherapy on insurance?
It depends on your insurer. With Great Eastern, we help with a direct claim, subject to eligibility. With other insurers, you pay first and we give you a physiotherapy report and receipt so you can claim. We don’t accept Guarantee Letters.
Do I need an injection for tennis elbow?
Most people try exercise-based physiotherapy first. If your elbow isn’t improving, your physiotherapist can suggest you see a doctor to talk about injections or other options.
Do I have to stop playing tennis or golf?
Not always. Your physiotherapist may cut how often or how hard you play, or suggest a change to your grip or racket, rather than stop you completely.
What should I wear and bring?
Wear loose clothes you can move in, such as a T-shirt and shorts. Bring any X-ray, MRI or ultrasound reports you have. If you don’t have any, that’s fine.
What language does your team speak?
Our team speaks English, Malay and Mandarin, and some of us also speak Hokkien, Hakka and Cantonese. If you’d prefer a language other than English, mention it in your WhatsApp message when you book.
