Does this sound like your shoulder?
Your shoulder hurts to reach for something on a high shelf.
Putting on your seatbelt or a jacket hurts.
You wake up at night when you roll onto that side.
Washing or tying your hair is hard.
Your shoulder pinches when you smash in badminton or serve in tennis.
The pain comes back after the gym or a long day at the laptop.

Why your shoulder pain keeps coming back
Your shoulder joint sits on your shoulder blade. When you lift your arm, the shoulder blade should turn to make room. Long hours at a desk and weak upper back muscles can stop it doing that.
Think of a crane. The arm can only lift well when the base under it is steady. When the base wobbles, the arm strains.
Your rotator cuff, the small muscles around the joint, then does extra work and gets pinched and sore. Rest calms it down, but the base is still unsteady.
So your physiotherapist checks your shoulder blade, upper back and neck as well as your shoulder before treatment starts.

What happens in your shoulder physiotherapy treatment session
Each session is 45 to 60 minutes and strictly one-to-one. Your first visit follows these four steps.

Assessment
You tell us where it hurts and what makes it worse, including at night. We watch how your shoulder blade moves as you reach, test your rotator cuff, and check your neck, which can also cause shoulder pain.

Hands-on treatment
Your physiotherapist uses hands-on treatment to ease your pain and loosen the stiff areas, so your arm moves more freely. The method depends on what we find.

Exercise therapy
You start exercises in the same session, often with light weights, to strengthen your rotator cuff and the muscles around your shoulder blade. We watch your form and correct it.

Your plan
Before you leave, you get exercises for home and a plan built around the reach or lift you want back.
What our shoulder patients say...
I had been suffering from neck shoulder and back pain for long time and notmally just goto chiro or acupuncture whenever getting worse. I went to ONI after seeing the google reviews on this centre provides not only physiotherapy but also some coaching on exercises needed. Then June was the one attended to me, with detail assessment and explanation on my body condition patiently. I signed up course after 1st trial which include the physio and exercise. That night I slept soundly and woke up fresh in the next morning. I continued and found is useful to maintain good body condition through the program. Highly recommended to try for those having the similar symptoms.
My first visit is pleasant. Physiotherapist is Jamie and she is patient, thorough and knowledgeable. She helped me with my shoulder injury result from tennis and pickleball. After diagnosis, she introduced a few type of exercise to strengthen my back muscle to prevent future injuries. She also whatsapp me all the Youtube links for me to refer and also did a follow up few days later. The premise is clean, spacious and professional.I highly recommend ONI and Jamie.
I had a shoulder issue for a long period of time and Eva helped me recover quickly and gradually. Thanks to her my mobility is way better now, I highly recommend her services
I came to ONI for frozen shoulder. Eva did an extraordinary job to solve my issue in 2-3 months . Quite short for frozen shoulder. Then I also used her services for back pain with same extraordinary experience in solving the problem. I can only recommend Eva to anyone.
I have some shoulder pain. So i came here to do a 3D posture scan and the physiotherapist helped me in assessment, and explained very well for my condition. He also very friendly suggested some exercise that I can do on my own to relieve my condition.
The physiotherapist, Malcolm, is very professional and friendly. He helped on my shoulder issues and taught about how to breathe and use my muscles correctly while doing my gym. He guided on every position that I did and give a clear explanation on what can the position help on me. I really enjoy my sessions and felt happy for the results I have on my body shape now. I really appreciate for that, thank you!
Eva helped tremendously with my frozen shoulder and tight hip flexors. Now to keep it up with the homework!

Extremely happy with the services. Strongly recommend. I have been having recurring, very intense headaches for more than 10 years due to stiff shoulder muscles. Just in few sessions all my headaches have vanished. Worth every RM you spend. Friendly staff, brand new facility.
I’ve been suffering from stiff and painful shoulders due to the nature of my work. After meeting Bryan for few sessions, his dry needling skills and strength exercises has improved my shoulder significantly. His attention to detail is worth the price

Shoulder problems we treat
We treat a range of shoulder conditions, whether it’s an acute injury, long-term pain or recovery after surgery.
Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis)
The lining of the joint tightens, so your shoulder gets stiff and painful over months. We bring back your movement step by step.
Rotator cuff injury
The rotator cuff is the group of small muscles that keep your shoulder joint in place. We settle the pain, then rebuild their strength.
Shoulder impingement
A tendon gets pinched under the bony tip of your shoulder when you lift your arm. We free up the movement and strengthen the muscles around it.
Shoulder bursitis
A small fluid-filled sac on top of the shoulder swells and gets sore, often from overhead work. We calm it down and change the movements that irritate it.
Arm pain from the neck (cervical radiculopathy)
Pain, tingling or numbness down your arm that starts from a nerve in your neck. We find the nerve and treat what is pressing on it.
Shoulder dislocation and instability
Your shoulder has slipped out of place, or it feels loose. Once a doctor has checked it, we strengthen the muscles that hold it steady.
Shoulder rehab after surgery
Getting your movement and strength back after surgery, such as a rotator cuff repair. We follow the limits your surgeon has set.

Common questions about shoulder physiotherapy
How many shoulder physiotherapy sessions will I need?
It depends on what is causing your shoulder pain and how long you’ve had it. A shoulder that has been stiff for months usually needs more time than a recent strain. After your assessment, your physiotherapist will suggest a plan.
Can frozen shoulder be treated without an injection?
Physiotherapy is one option, and you can start it without seeing a doctor first. After your assessment, your physiotherapist will tell you whether physiotherapy alone suits your shoulder, or whether you should also see a doctor about other options, such as an injection.
Do I need a doctor's referral or a scan first?
No. You can book with us directly, and your physiotherapist will assess your shoulder on your first visit. Bring any X-ray or MRI reports you already have. If your physiotherapist thinks a scan would help, they will tell you to see a doctor, who can arrange one.
Can I claim physiotherapy on insurance?
It depends on your insurer. With Great Eastern, we help with a direct claim, subject to eligibility. With other insurers, you pay first and we give you a physiotherapy report and receipt so you can claim. We don’t accept Guarantee Letters.
Can I keep going to the gym while I see a shoulder physio?
It depends on what is causing your shoulder pain. After your assessment, your physiotherapist will tell you which exercises and sports to keep doing, which to change and which to rest for now.
Does shoulder treatment hurt?
Mostly, no. Hands-on treatment is there to ease your pain. A stiff shoulder can feel uncomfortable as we work on its movement, but your physiotherapist keeps it at a level you can manage and checks with you as they go.
What should I wear and bring?
Wear loose clothes you can move in, such as a T-shirt and shorts. Bring any X-ray, MRI or ultrasound reports you have. If you don’t have any, that’s fine.
What language does your team speak?
Our team speaks English, Malay and Mandarin, and some of us also speak Hokkien, Hakka and Cantonese. If you’d prefer a language other than English, mention it in your WhatsApp message when you book.
